Smash Hits - Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow
Dear Members,
The Dalai Lama said "there are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow. So today is the right day to love, believe, do and mostly live". The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has undergone a rebranding and is now known as Sport Australia. Sport Australia have also opened applications for the 2019 Women Leaders in Sport (WLIS) and Community Infrastructure Grants. All this information is on their new website https://www.sportaus.gov.au and remember to leverage the campaign "MOVE IT" (or lose it)!
Congratulations to participants who were part of the first BWF Level 1 Coaching Course in Victoria and Western Australia in the past month. There is an ongoing demand for quality coaching and coach education, so we look forward to supporting you in delivering more BWF courses.
The BWF Online Shuttle Time Module was launched this week. This module provides the opportunity for participants to cover theoretical aspects of the Shuttle Time Programme in their own time. This reduces the requirement for participants to attend a full day Shuttle Time course, through the provision of blended, online and face-to-face learning. Learn more about the BWF Online Shuttle Time Module by visiting http://bwfshuttletime.com/online-module.
Looking to create a more inclusive sporting environment? Special Olympics Australia and Leaders of Evolution have released a new online coaching course to provide a greater sporting experience for people with an intellectual disability. It uses a variety of videos, case studies and questions to equip coaches with the skills to be able to deliver practical coaching sessions to people with an intellectual disability across a variety of sports. Head to http://soalearn.com.au to register for a free account and access the course material.
Sporting Schools for badminton in Term 2 was another success. Badminton delivered 64 of 88 programs requested across seven States/Territories in Term 2. 17 were secondary school programs, exceeding our expectation. Just over 60% of programs were met by providers and their coaches, whilst 40% were delivered by school teachers. Based on Term 2 Sporting Schools surveys, coach satisfaction and communication with schools remained high at above 90% for primary schools and above 80% for secondary schools. For Term 3, Badminton is currently tracking 83 school requests (12 of which are secondary bookings) across all eight States/Territories!
