Smash Hits - Reporting and Renewals
Dear Members,
Badminton Australia is preparing its Annual Reports, due to go for printing this month. We appreciate States/Territories who have submitted their copies within the initial deadline and look forward to receiving the rest soon.
Applications for the Women Leaders in Sport Grants (WLIS) are now open from the ASC website, and we encourage you to put in an application. More than 23,000 women have benefited from these grants since 2002, and there is more than $2 million available over three years to help women in sport explore their leadership potential. Applications are to be completed online, and close on 5 October 2016.
Have you also heard of 'crowdfunding'? The Australian Sports Foundation is the only tax-deductible fundraising arm for sports. Their 2016 Financial Year was a record-breaking year - raising $32m for sport, an increase of 31% from 2015 FY, and taking their total funds raised to over $300m. Hop onto their website to get the stats and find out about how to help your clubs, teams, projects gain the maximum advantage through donations.
Badminton continues to be in high demand, with over a hundred Term 3 Sporting Schools requests for badminton programs around the country. The once-off Term 3 reporting from all coaching providers and coaches will be requested shortly. Important to note, the Sporting Schools booking system will go live for Term 4 soon. Badminton Australia has generated 4 different program packages (Shuttle Time Starter, Shuttle Time Equip, Shuttle Time Connect, Shuttle Time Xpert) that can cover common scenarios in the sport. As the Sporting Schools system is no longer taking coach registrations, Badminton Australia will now directly collect coach contact details (or teacher contact details if a program is internally delivered), evidence of their Coaching Qualification or Teaching Registration, and a copy of their Working With Children clearance letters.
33 people attended Shuttle Time Teacher Courses in ACT and SA over the last month. A timely achievement which complements the growing demand and participation in those regions. Thanks to Badminton ACT and Badminton SA for their commitment to the program. Good news for candidates who are seeking alternative ways to attain certification. Badminton Australia has released an online assessment option to combine with a short practical workshop, intended for candidates who meet certain prerequisites. Work has started to integrate Shuttle Time into the Coach Education Framework. In the meantime, contact me for further details about Shuttle Time or if you wish to pilot this in your State/Territory.
Upcoming participation programs and events: Badminton WA hosts the Australian Wheelchair Badminton Championships 10-11 Sep; Badminton NSW at Wheelchair Sports Expo 11-12 Sep; Badminton NSW hosts a Shuttle Time Teacher Course 19 Sep
