Back to School
G'day, here are some short snippets from the last two weeks:
Playing sport for life: Whilst school children dreaded going to school for the first time in 2016 during the last week, an enthusiastic group of Tutors were learning about Shuttle Time implementation. 16 Members from across Australia and a guest from Sport Matters attended a BWF Shuttle Time Tutor Training Course in Sydney over 30-31 January. It was two long days of group discussions, session planning, practical training, and networking. All Shuttle Time activities are encouraged to be reported as the data will play an important part in helping us target the right areas for development and growth.
Viva Voce: Quite often we hear how powerful the 'word of mouth' is. It was nice to receive a call from a school in Queensland who mentioned that Manly State School had a great badminton experience in 2015 through Sporting Schools and wanted to sign up for a similar program. Ask your local clubs and associations to mention either Shuttle Time or Sporting Schools to their local schools. Term 1 & Term 2 funding window is still open!
Bad Wheels: Badminton WA have increased their number of wheelchair players to 7 and have also introduced badminton to 16 adults with an intellectual disability. Check out the Facebook page for more on their para-badminton group. Note, Badminton WA hopes to host a para-badminton tournament alongside their State Championships on the 25-26 June weekend.
Please continue to share programs and events in your States/Territories as they become available, to grow the sport profile and increase our abilty to provide support and share knowledge where possible.
